Fermata is a virtual recording studio for real-time music collaboration. It lets musicians, producers, and engineers work together live — streaming DAW audio, sharing screens, and mixing each other's tracks independently.

No. Guests can join any session with just a link. They enter their name and join — no account or download required. Only the host needs an account to create and manage sessions.

The host uses the Fermata desktop app (macOS, Windows coming soon) to create and manage sessions. Collaborators can join from any modern browser — Chrome recommended for best performance.

Install BlackHole 2ch (brew install blackhole-2ch on macOS). Then:

1. Open Audio MIDI Setup (Spotlight → Audio MIDI Setup)
2. Create a Multi-Output Device with both BlackHole 2ch and your speakers/headphones
3. Set your DAW output to the Multi-Output Device
4. In Fermata, select BlackHole 2ch in the DAW Audio dropdown and enable it

Your DAW audio will now stream to collaborators while you still hear it through your speakers.

Set your DAW and audio interface to 48000 Hz. Fermata captures at 48kHz stereo. Mismatched sample rates can cause audio artefacts or silence.

Yes. Set Ableton's output device to your Multi-Output Device (which includes BlackHole), select BlackHole in Fermata's DAW Audio dropdown, and enable it. Your Ableton master output streams directly to the session.

Yes. In Logic Preferences → Audio, set the output device to your Multi-Output Device containing BlackHole. The same setup applies as for Ableton.

Make sure BlackHole is installed and your Mac has been restarted after installation. Fermata detects BlackHole by name — it should appear as "BlackHole 2ch" in the dropdown. If not, try restarting Fermata.

Fermata captures audio at 48kHz stereo with no echo cancellation, noise suppression, or auto-gain. This gives you studio-grade audio rather than voice-call processing.

Use headphones during sessions. If you monitor through speakers, your mic will pick up the audio coming from other participants and send it back, causing echo. Fermata intentionally disables echo cancellation to preserve audio quality.

Fermata automatically retries the connection up to 3 times. For persistent issues: use a wired ethernet connection if possible, and check that your firewall isn't blocking WebRTC traffic.

When you create a session with the waiting room enabled, anyone who joins sees a "Waiting to be admitted" screen. The host sees a knock panel and can admit or decline each person individually.

Yes. Click the 🖥 Screen button in the Audio Sources panel. On macOS, you need to grant Screen Recording permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording. After granting permission, restart Fermata and try again.

All participants are immediately disconnected and notified that the session has ended. The session room is permanently closed and cannot be rejoined. Public sessions are removed from the community listing.

Yes. Cancel any time from your account settings. You keep access until the end of your current billing period. No cancellation fees.

The Weekly pass is a one-time $4 purchase that gives you 7 days of full Jam-tier access. It's ideal if you have a single recording session coming up and don't need a recurring subscription. It does not auto-renew.
